Volunteer Information

We expect all volunteers to arrive promptly at 6:30 am.
Saturday September 16, 2017 is a weekend so keep in mind that there are Transit hiccups so plan accordingly as to your travel needs to get to the park on time.
We will do our best to have everyone in the assignment of their choosing but it may change as the needs of the SCTPNWALK changes for the day.
Dress appropriate for the weather and comfortably for a various amount of tasks.
We welcome all volunteers that come day of so if you have Friends, Family, Coworkers, etc. it would be appreciated.Sending their name and email contact prior to the date would be convenient as well.

Calling all volunteers!!  2017 Walk for Sickle Cell volunteers are needed!

Would you or your group like to volunteer at the upcoming Walk for Sickle Cell, Saturday 9/16/17 in Central Park?   Volunteers are needed and welcomed!  Must be must be comfortable working under pressure, following strict directives, and must be willing to have fun in the process! Individual or group volunteers are encouraged to participate.

Note: All Volunteers must be present at Walk Site by 7:30am.

Available tasks include:

Set-up Crew

  • Assist with setting up of tables and tents for the walk
  • Assist with unloading of items from trucks and any other walk related vehicles as directed
  • Must be able to lift at least 15-20lbs

Walk Path Leaders

  • Expect to attend a brief walk-thru of the route the day before (Time: - TBD)
  • Assist and motivate walkers to complete the required two (2) laps
  • Will be stationed throughout the walk path

Cheerleaders/ Pep-squad

  • Motivate walkers along the walk route with motivational signs and cheers
  • Feel free to create your own chants/cheers (please nothing offensive or derogatory)

Water Distributors

  • Assist with the overall hydration of walkers as well as volunteers on the walk path

Distribute Sickle Cell Information

  • Sickle cell information table

Crowd Control

  • Navigate walkers so they are in the areas that they need to be (i.e. registration, refreshments, walk path, and grass area – (etc.)
  • Ensure that walkers know where the walk starts and finishes
  • Ensure that walkers are well-informed, calm, and diffuse any misunderstanding.

Refreshment Assistants

  • Ensure that all participants receive the refreshment of their choice
  • Ensure that the tables remain stocked (unless we have run out of refreshments)
  • Ensure that your area is clean prior to leaving the refreshment table

T-Shirt Station

  • Collect ticket and ensure that each registered walker receives his/her t-shirt and numbers
  • Distribute/collect surveys

Activities Station

  • Monitor the children’s activities corner – keep table/area stocked
  • Temporary tattoos, balloon animals, face painting
  • Ensure that the station is tidy before you leave

Break-down Crew

  • Assist with the breaking down of tables, chairs and tents
  • Assist with placing all SCTPN items back into the trucks and any other vehicles at the walk site
  • Must be able to lift at least 15-20lbs
